At SnowDragon Wines we believe that a wine palate is as unique as a snowflake or a leafy sea dragon. These tasting notes describe the winemakers opinion, but we want you to ‘Taste the Dragon’ and decide for yourself.
Restrained and Elegant. Blackberry, Blackcurrant, Blacklegs – Mmm, where was I ?……
The 2010 wines enjoyed a relatively cool vintage, awarding restraint and elegance. Long years of drought in the late naughty’s responded to a philosophical change toward sustainable land management. An albeit low yield, delivered small, dark, intensely flavoursome berries. Grapes were delicately hand-picked by our family’s fingers in the first week of March, and personally driven to our winemaker, Michael Sykes, at Lodestone Winery in the Adelaide Hills.
After fermentation, the wine was matured in seasoned French, American and Hungarian oak for just over 24 months. Oak is evident and contributes to the nutty complexity. Deep crimson red, black jube and ripe blackberry nose and a hint of black current reflect nice cool-climate Shiraz characters. The wines structure shows good tight acid and rich tannins combined with an excellent alcohol balance and length. You can expect a distinguished maturation in the cellar.
